obsessively trying to understand what it means to be human

Studio Notes: Lots of Open Loops

Completed Projects:
1. “Taco ‘Bout a Baby”
2. Baby Blanket #2
3. Little Lemon Cut-Outs
4. (technically) First Draft of Nine Compositions

Ongoing Projects:
1. Nine Compositions
This has taken on a new life. I finished the original nine about two weeks ago. I really loved them, but then I started to add color to them. I do not like the way that the alcohol ink was working up, and (in an effort to retain consistent quality across the body), I decided that I needed to start over. This is immensely frustrating, but I do think that the pieces I am making now are objectively “better.” So, starting over is the best/wisest decision. (This makes the project doubly frustrating.)
I have also expanded the quantity of pieces I am making for this project. I intend to have nine large compositions, as well as 36 small (affordable) derivatives of those nine large compositions. In all, I will have 45 pieces available for sale once this is all said and done. I cannot be surprised that I have not met my previously established deadline, as I have expanded my work.
2. Color Studies
I have all of these sketched out on paper, and I put that paper…. uh…. somewhere….
3. Week One: What does the careful study of art have to offer? – OVERDUE
4. Filet Crochet Series (two “regular) – OVERDUE
To be fair, I have these sketched out in my planner. I also have one or two “All Saints” sketched up. I don’t have the ideal yarn for these projects, and I think that’s partly what is delaying me. But that’s dumb. I just have to make do with what I have. That’s what creative people do.

This Weekend:
Realistically, I can finish redrawing all of my “nine” compositions. Since that is a pretty mathematical process, I should also draw up the borders for my color studies series. I have planned to draw lots of ellipses for that project. I am unsure if the best way to approach this is to freehand or stencil the ellipses. (I am leaning toward freehand, just so that I can make them the size I would like them to be.)
1. Friday – Clean the House, Take Inventory, Maybe Crochet
2. Saturday – Finish Drawing “Nine Compositions,” Draw Up Borders for “Color Studies.”
3. Sunday – Write “Week One,” Crochet Some

Notes on Social Media Use:
I just need to be consistent. I get really hung up on who does and does not view, like, and share. Is that important? Sure. It’s more important to post and share consistently. Nothing is that serious. Everything is advertising. That’s all.

Let’s hope that, come Sunday evening, I can close some of these loops.
